Wayne County pairs deep Ozark timber with some of the region's best big water. Wappapello Lake anchors the county, and the St. Francis and Black rivers wind through forested hills wrapped by the Mark Twain National Forest. The terrain rolls from rugged, timbered ridges in the west toward gentler farm country and river bottoms in the east. It's a strong mix for buyers: hardwood ridges that hunt well for deer and turkey, pasture and hay ground for cattle, and lake and river frontage prized for fishing and recreation. Waterfowl move through the bottoms in season. For a recreational tract near the lake, a working cattle farm, or a timbered hunting property, Wayne County covers a lot of ground.
