Spring-fed rivers and unbroken forest along the Current.

Carter County is float-stream and big-timber country, some of the most scenic in the Missouri Ozarks. The Current River runs clear and cold through the heart of it, fed by powerful springs, and much of the county lies within the Mark Twain National Forest and the protected riverways corridor. The land is rugged and heavily wooded, with steep oak-hickory and shortleaf pine ridges, deep hollows, and gravel-bar streams. This is classic recreation and timber ground, with strong big-woods deer and turkey hunting and some of the best canoeing and smallmouth water in the state. Pasture is limited to the valleys. For a hunting camp, a river retreat, or a remote timber tract, Carter County delivers wild country in abundance.
